GOVERNMENT SUBMITS PROJECT TO TCU FOR HISTORIC WATERWAY CONCESSION

Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports has sent the concession project for the Paraguay River waterway to the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts). This project, slated for auction by late 2025, would be the country’s first-ever waterway concession. The 600-km stretch from Corumbá to the Apa River border requires BRL 43.2 million in initial investments and aims to boost competitiveness, cut logistics costs, and promote sustainable transport. The winning concessionaire will handle dredging, signaling, and traffic management for a 20-year contract, extendable to 70 years, with the goal of tripling cargo volume by 2035.
