GLOBAL DEMAND FOR SUGAR IS EXPECTED TO GROW BY 16 MILLION TONS IN TEN YEARS

Luciana Torrezan, market intelligence manager at BP Bunge Bioenergia, believes Brazil will continue to lead the global sugar market, given that other major producers, such as India, Thailand, Australia, and Central American countries, cannot significantly boost production. Torrezan stated during the 17th National Congress of the National Bioenergy Union (Udop) that India prioritizes its own sugar and ethanol markets, hence limiting exports. She estimates that global sugar consumption would increase by 1% per year, adding 1.6 million tons yearly, with Brazil covering a large portion of this demand due to reduced production costs.
