For the third consecutive month, Brazilian ports set a new record by handling 118.4 million tons of cargo in May 2025, a 6.94% increase compared to May 2024. This includes record volumes for solid bulk (73.4 million tons) and containerized cargo (13 million tons). From January to May, total cargo reached 531.9 million tons. Key highlights include significant rises in coal (+26.78%), fertilizers (+16.32%), and petroleum gas (+16.31%). Long-haul navigation accounted for 85.6 million tons, followed by cabotage (24.6 million) and inland waterways (7.9 million). Public ports handled 42.3 million tons (+4.9%), notably the Port of Rio Grande (RS), which surged 46.86% due to last year’s flooding impacts. Private terminals moved 76.1 million tons (+8.1%), with Port Itapoá (SC) showing the highest growth among private facilities at 27.07%.
