FOR COPERSUCAR, BRAZIL CAN PRODUCE MORE ETHANOL WITHOUT “PENALIZING” SUGAR

Tomás Manzano, CEO of Copersucar, stated that the rising demand for ethanol does not threaten sugar supply, urging Brazilian mills to invest in sugar production to meet global consumption growth of about 2 million tons annually. He highlighted a tight global sugar supply since 2018, with carryover stocks falling from 45% to 35% of consumption, indicating a positive price outlook. Manzano emphasized Brazil’s competitiveness and productivity advantages, unlike India and Thailand, which face supply constraints. He expressed optimism about improving logistics, particularly at the Port of Santos, and noted the need for increased terminal capacity if sugar production rises. Currently, Copersucar’s associated mills can store 2.5 million tons of sugar, but expansion may be necessary in the future.
