FIRST ROUND OF NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN MERCOSUR AND THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES CONCLUDED JULY 5

The first round of Mercosur-UAE negotiations concluded on July 5, achieving significant progress towards a potential agreement. Coordinated by Paraguay, the talks involved expert negotiators from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and the UAE. Discussions focused on Market Access for Goods, Rules of Origin, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Technical Barriers to Trade, and Services. The delegations reviewed negotiating texts and conducted technical exchanges. Both parties aim to conclude negotiations this year and will continue virtual intercessional work. The UAE, a key Middle Eastern trading partner, reported a positive trade balance with Mercosur in 2023, with exports valued at $3.5 billion. Paraguay sees potential for expanding exports of beef, corn, sugar, chicken, and wheat.
