FIRST ESTIMATE OF THE YEAR INDICATES THAT GRAIN PRODUCTION WILL BE 4.2% HIGHER

Grain production in 2018/19 is expected to total 237.3 million tons, up 4.2% from the previous harvest, or a 9.5 million tons increase. The data are the 4th survey of the grain harvest, the first of the year released by the National Supply Company (Conab). According to Conab, the area planted with grains will also be larger in the current season, totaling 62.5 million hectares, an increase of 1.2%, compared to the 2017/18 harvest. Soyabeans continue to be the main crop in the country, with a projection of 1.7% growth in the area of ​​planting and a reduction of 0.4% in production, reaching 118.8 million tons, and the first corn crop, which had an increase of 0.4% in the area to be cultivated which should result in a production of 27.5 million tons. With this performance, the product is expected to perform 12.9% higher than the one obtained in 2017/18, recording a production of 91.2 million tons, when added to the two harvests of the grain.
