FIRJAN PLANS TO MAKE RIO DE JANEIRO A PETROCHEMICAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER

The Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) research “Petrochemicals: attracting investments to Rio de Janeiro” emphasizes the growth potential of the petrochemical and fertilizer industry in Rio, based on the use of natural gas as an input. Rio de Janeiro, a leader in the nation’s gas production from the pre-salt layer, produces all the nation’s ethane, the primary ingredient in the country’s petrochemical sector. “It is important to keep in mind that Rio de Janeiro has the potential to have four integrated natural gas hubs, in addition to possibly five plants for the generation of green hydrogen, which could produce nitrogen fertilizers, such as ammonia and urea,” says Karine Fragoso, manager of Oil, Gas, and Naval at Firjan.
