ETHANOL PRODUCTION BECOMES AN OPTION FOR CORN PRODUCERS

The Center-South area has recently seen a significant increase in the production of ethanol from corn, according to the Union of the Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry (Unica). The volume strongly increased from 37 million liters to almost 4.4 billion liters. The ethanol produced from grain is expected to account for 17% of the overall corn amount in this crop. Ruan Sene, an analyst at Grao Direto, claims that this expansion gives the firm access to a new market. “By means of this projected increase for corn ethanol plants, it will present producers with another opportunity for negotiation.” The expansion of corn ethanol production, which was mostly based on sugarcane, helps to increase the sustainability of the industry by reducing dependence on a single source.
