ETHANOL CONSUMPTION REACHES 1.66 BILLION LITERS IN JUNE, AN ANNUAL INCREASE OF 40.4%

Ethanol consumption in June reached 1.66 billion liters, up 40.4% annually, but down 10.4% from May’s 1.85 billion liters. Year-to-date, ethanol purchases totaled 10.74 billion liters, a 53.5% increase from 2023 and the highest since 2008, according to the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). Gasoline consumption fell to 3.51 billion liters in June, down 8.6% annually and 3.6% from May. Year-to-date gasoline demand was 21.42 billion liters, a 7.4% drop from 2023. Ethanol’s market share dropped to 25% in June but increased from 17.9% in June 2023. In São Paulo, ethanol demand was 797 million liters, up 27.9% annually but down 11.3% monthly.
