DREDGING OF THE PORT OF NATAL TO START IN JANUARY AND LAST SIX MONTHS

The dredging project at the Port of Natal is set to begin in early 2026, with dredgers expected to arrive in January, according to the Ministry of Ports and Airports. The R$54.5 million effort, led by DTA, will deepen the channel from 10 to 11 meters, allowing larger vessels and boosting international competitiveness without interrupting operations. Codern states the upgrade will increase cargo capacity, improve safety, allow 24-hour transit under the bridge, and potentially triple cargo volume with future iron ore exports. The port is also advancing a bridge protection system, with construction expected to be completed in 2027, following Navy restrictions on nighttime maneuvers due to collision risks. Additionally, a unified infrastructure program—including warehouse and shed renovations and a photovoltaic system—is underway, with completion expected by August 2026.
