The second corn crop of Paraná 2021/22 was estimated on Thursday (31) at 15.9 million tons, according to the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), which revised upwards its projection by 400 thousand tons in relation to the last forecast, following an adjustment in the planted area amid good prices. If confirmed, the production of the second crop corn in Paraná, which accounts for the largest output in the state, would almost triple in relation to the previous season, which was harmed by drought and frost. Corn planting is likely to grow 7% when compared to the previous cycle, to almost 2.7 million hectares in the second crop. Wheat planting in 2022 is expected to reach 1.17 million hectares in Paraná this year, down from 1.22 million in 2021. However, average productivity is expected to increase from 2.6 tons per hecatere to 3.3 tons per hectare. Deral has also made a slight adjustment to the soybean crop, and production is now estimated at 11.58 million tons against the 19.8 million tons in 2021.
