CORN: SECOND-HIGHEST EXPORT VOLUME IN HISTORY

Even with the shortage of grains in the domestic market, exports of some agricultural products, such as corn, are still strong this year. Data from the Ministry of Economy show that Brazil exported 29.7 million tons of corn, with revenues of US$ 4.9 billion from January to November. According to estimates based on preliminary data, foreign sales of the grain amount to 32.9 million tons in mid-December. With this volume, Brazil reaches the second-best result of corn exports in all history, behind only the volume of 44.9 million tons in 2019. For Vlamir Brandalizze, market analyst, Brazilian producers took advantage of the good exchange rate. “Exports this year are from older contracts. Dollar prices in Chicago rose 25% in the middle of the year, boosting sales abroad”, he says. In December, Brazilian Association of Cereal Exporters (Anec) expects that corn exports will reach 4.457 million tons. According to the Association, Brazil should end the year with 34.003 million tons shipped.
