CORN HARVEST IN PARANÁ REACHES 13% OF THE AREA, AT A HISTORIC PACE, SAYS DERAL

The corn harvest in Paraná reached 13% of the cultivated area, up six percentage points from the previous week, and remains ahead of previous years, according to the Department of Rural Economy (Deral). Edmar Gervásio from Deral noted that early planting and dry weather led to early crop maturation, though with reduced productivity. The harvest is expected to exceed one-third by the end of June, a historical high for the second corn harvest. However, due to climate issues, the final yield is projected to be less than the estimated 13.2 million tons. The west and central-west regions, comprising 50% of the planted area, are the main harvesting areas. In Mato Grosso, the largest producer, the harvest is also progressing rapidly. Accelerated harvesting has led to a nearly 2% price drop, with corn prices at R$58.22 per bag in the Campinas region.
