CORN EXPORTS BOOST MOVEMENT IN NORTHERN PORTS

From January to August 2025, organized ports in Brazil’s North Region handled 30.2 million tons of cargo, the majority of which was dry bulk (24.8 million tons). Volume reached 3.9 million tons in August alone, up 2.16% over the same month in 2024, driven by increases in corn (+10.4%), fertilizers (+18%), and inorganic chemicals (+13.1%).
Silvio Costa Filho, Minister of Ports and Airports, highlighted the region’s vital importance in national logistics. The Port of Santana (AP) led in percentage growth (+25.2%), followed by Santarém (PA), which moved 1.9 million tons (+11.25%) and had a 45.3% increase in exports. Porto Velho (RO) also showed a gain (+0.92%), particularly in soybeans. Meanwhile, Vila do Conde (PA) handled 1.8 million tons and Belém (PA) 264 thousand tons in August.
