Brazil is consolidating its position as the world’s second-largest corn ethanol producer, with Mato Grosso leading the expansion. In Sinop, Inpasa operates Latin America’s largest corn ethanol refinery, which processed 3.7 billion liters in 2024—nearly half of Brazil’s grain-based ethanol. Corn ethanol output is projected to reach 10 billion liters in 2025/26, a 20% increase, supported by Brazil’s strong corn production of around 130 million tons. In addition to fuel, plants generate by-products such as DDGS for animal feed, corn oil, and bioelectricity. Inpasa alone produces 1 million tons of DDGS, 105,000 tons of oil, and 804.1 GWh of power annually. The sector is boosting local agriculture by increasing crop liquidity, strengthening logistics, and encouraging sustainable practices, while also driving investments in new plants, such as the R$4.9 billion unit in Bahia. Mato Grosso currently accounts for 12.5 million tons of corn milling, far ahead of other states.
