COPERSUCAR PROMOTES SOLIDARITY ACTION IN SANTOS PORT

Copersucar has taken several actions to minimize the impacts caused by COVID-19 in several regions of Brazil, in recent weeks. To date, the company has donated more than 275,000 liters of 70% alcohol to more than 100 cities located in four different states. Of this volume, 50 thousand were delivered to the Santos Health Department, which has helped to supply public health units free of charge with material for disinfecting environments and surfaces, essential for hospital use. In addition to the 9 thousand snacks per month for truck drivers arriving in Porto, the company has already promoted the distribution of 300 basic food baskets that were delivered to families of students in Santos municipal education. “When we developed this solidarity project, we tried to act on two important fronts to minimize the impact caused by the pandemic: to contribute to the worker who needs to continue exercising his activity and, at the same time, to strengthen the local economy, especially the small and medium retailer, who suffers from the financial repercussions caused by social isolation ”, comments Fabiano Messias, coordinator of work safety and environment at Copersucar. “Indirectly, we still help dozens of families to maintain their income, a fact that fills us with pride and motivation to do even more”, he adds. Daily, about 300 truck drivers arrive at the Copersucar terminal to unload food products. While waiting in line to transfer the cargo, these workers receive a bag of snacks and juice from the company’s employees, which is important for food reinforcement and, mainly, to avoid having to look for another place in the city, thus maintaining the social distancing. In addition to providing food to the driver, the purchase of kits with snacks made by Copersucar directly supported a snack and candy company installed 20 years ago in the Macuco neighborhood, in Santos / SP, generating income and helping to keep jobs.
