COPERSUCAR MAKES R$8 BILLION BET ON BIOMETHANE FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS

Copersucar plans to invest R$8 billion in biomethane over the next decade to strengthen the circular economy within its operations, according to president Tomas Manzano. The initiative aims to enable all 38 cooperative plants to produce the renewable gas, with investments of R$200,000–R$300,000 per unit. Biomethane, derived from biogas produced from organic waste, can replace fossil fuels like diesel and natural gas. Copersucar expects Brazil’s biomethane output to more than triple by 2027, reaching 2.3 million m³/day, driven mainly by São Paulo, which accounts for 40% of national capacity. Manzano emphasized that Brazil has the resources, technology, and infrastructure to make biomethane a key player in the energy transition. With 38 mills in Brazil and 22 distilleries in the U.S., Copersucar’s 2024 revenue grew 18.5% to R$27.5 billion, reflecting its long-term vision and collaborative business model.
