CONTAMINATED SOYBEANS ARE TURNED INTO ORGANIC FERTILIZER

Federal agricultural inspectors carried out a major operation this week to dispose of about 7 tons of soybeans and soybean meal seized in April at the Port of Paranaguá (PR), which showed signs of intentional adulteration, including sand, bird feces, and dead rodents. The contaminated cargo, deemed unfit for export or consumption, is being converted into organic fertilizer at a composting facility in Araras (SP), requiring around 150 truck trips. The action, monitored by agricultural engineers, zootechnicians, and veterinarians, aims to prevent fraud, protect public health, and safeguard Brazil’s credibility in international trade. Supported by the Vigifronteiras Program and SISV-SP, each step is documented to ensure compliance with national and international standards. The case, still under investigation in the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba, highlights the crucial role of inspectors in combating irregularities, protecting agribusiness, and ensuring environmentally responsible disposal of contaminated products.
