Brazilian food supply and statistics agency (Conab) predicts that the 2021/22 Brazilian grain crop will reach 268.2 million tons. The volume represents a growth of 5% when compared to the last season. About 12.79 million tons will still be harvested by the end of the season. Soy production is likely to reach 125.47 million tons, with 16.8% already harvested, representing a drop of about 9% when compared to the previous harvest. Despite the adverse weather for the first corn crop, Conab projects a recovery in production. About 112.34 million tons of corn are expected to be harvested, an increase of 29% compared to 2020/21. The first corn crop should remain at 24 million tons, a volume very close to the last season. An increase of 47% is expected for the second harvest, reaching 86 million tons. “This increase is due to the attractive prices in the ideal planting window for soybeans, which is the main crop before corn”, said Sergio De Zen, the director of Agricultural Policy and Information at Conab.
