CLEAR EXPANSION OF CORN ETHANOL INCLUDES CHALLENGES TO INCREASE EFFICIENCY

The 10th Teco Latin America event highlighted the prospects and challenges for corn ethanol in Brazil. Organized by Novonesis, it featured discussions on corn’s potential as an alternative to sugarcane for ethanol, thanks to its high returns. Thiago Duarte of BTG Pactual emphasized corn ethanol’s growing market share, with Novonesis forecasting over 50 new corn ethanol plants soon. The sector anticipates a 41% market share by 2030, driven by new technologies and sustainable practices like BECCS, targeting carbon-negative ethanol. FS and ALD Bioenergia plan expansions, while logistical improvements for DDG (distillers’ dried grains) and fuel standardization are needed.
