CHINA LEADS FERTILIZER SUPPLY IN BRAZIL

Brazil’s fertilizer imports have been influenced by softer global demand and supply-side adjustments, as reported by Itaú BBA. While Brazil’s total import volume for 2025 remained greater than previous year, the rate of buying has reduced throughout the year.  From January to November, imports reached 38.8 million tons, representing a 2.1% rise over the same period in 2024. However, the tonnage imported in November alone was 18% less than in November of the previous year.  China has greatly increased its position, surpassing Russia to become Brazil’s leading supplier of both intermediate and finished fertilizers. China’s stake of the Brazilian market has increased from 5% in 2016 to 23% by 2025. China and Russia currently account for almost half of all Brazilian fertilizer imports.
