China imported no soybeans from the United States in September 2025, marking the first month without U.S. shipments since November 2018, according to China’s customs data. The halt results from trade tensions, higher tariffs, and depleted stockpiles. In contrast, Brazil’s soybean exports to China surged 29.9% year-on-year to 10.96 million tonnes, accounting for 85.2% of China’s total imports. Purchases from Argentina also rose 91.5% to 1.17 million tonnes. Altogether, China imported 12.87 million tonnes of soybeans — the second-highest monthly volume on record. The strong performance highlights Brazil’s growing dominance and competitiveness in the global soybean market, boosted by its record 2025 harvest and stable prices, while the U.S. temporarily loses ground.
