CENTER-SOUTH INCREASES ETHANOL SALES IN SEPTEMBER

In the first half of September, mills in Brazil’s Center-South region processed 45.97 million tons of sugarcane, up 6.94% from last year, though the total since the start of the 2024/25 season remains 3.68% lower. According to Unica, 259 mills were active, with Total Recoverable Sugars (TRS) down 3.43% to 154.58 kg/ton. Sugar production reached 3.62 million tons in the period, totaling 30.39 million tons in the harvest, while ethanol output hit 2.33 billion liters, driven by a 15.97% surge in corn-based ethanol. Ethanol sales rose 18.19% in the first half of September, with exports soaring 235.7%. Despite this, cumulative sales in the season remain 1.6% lower. As of September 30, 31.69 million CBios had been issued—enough to cover 97% of Brazil’s 2025 decarbonization target.
