CARGO THROUGHPUT IN BRAZILIAN PORTS RISE 5.9% FROM JANUARY TO APRIL 2024

Brazilian port cargo throughput rose by 5.92% in the first four months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, reaching 413.5 million tons, according to the National Waterborne Transport Agency (Antaq). This aligns with the Ministry of Ports and Airports’ projection of at least 6% growth for the year. Agribusiness exports are expected to boost this growth further, potentially approaching 8% by year-end. Soybeans, sugar, and coffee exports increased significantly. Public ports handled 147.4 million tons, with Santos leading at 43.9 million tons. In April, total port movement grew by 2.59%, with significant increases in containerized and solid bulk cargo, though liquid bulk and general cargo saw declines.
