CARGO MOVEMENT IN BRAZILIAN PORTS GROWS 5.9% IN THE FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF 2024

The cargo movement at Brazilian ports surged to 413.5 million tons in the first four months of 2024, marking a substantial 5.92% increase compared to the same period in 2023, as reported by Antaq. Agriculture exports saw significant growth, with soybeans accounting for 53.7 million tons (+4%), sugar at 9.2 million tons (+72%), and coffee at 1.1 million tons (+80%). Among public ports, Santos ranked the highest with 43.9 million tons (+11.7%), followed by Paranaguá with 19 million tons (+13%), and Itaguaí with 18.8 million tons (+34.6%). In April alone, the total movement reached 105.13 million tons (+2.59%). The industry anticipates an overall growth of up to 8% by the end of the year, propelled by the agribusiness sector.
