CARGO MOVEMENT AT THE PORT OF SANTOS IN JULY HITS RECORD HIGH AFTER US TARIFF ANNOUNCEMENT

In July, the Port of Santos handled over 17 million tons, marking a strong rebound in exports after the U.S. imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian products. According to the Santos Port Authority (APS), this surge reflects Santos’ strategic importance during critical global moments. Preliminary data shows a 10% rise in solid bulk shipments (900,000 tons), a 4% increase in container cargo (200,000 tons), and a 9% boost in general cargo (85,000 tons). A 10% increase in liquid bulk is also expected, though not yet confirmed. APS President Anderson Pomini noted a significant uptick in vessel activity bound for Europe and the U.S., calling this a “record of records” and reinforcing the port’s pivotal role in international trade.
