CARGO HANDLING GROWS BY 8% IN FIVE MONTHS IN BRAZIL’S PUBLIC PORTS

In the first five months of 2024, Brazil’s public ports handled 188 million tons, an increase of 8.08% compared to the same period in 2023. The private terminals also recorded an increase of 2.06% with 337 million tons. In total, 525.3 million tons were handled in Brazilian ports, an increase of 4.14%. Dry bulk cargo increased by 7% and accounted for 59% of total output. Container cargo rose by 22.85%. The port of Santos handled 56 million tons, an increase of 9.48 %, and the port of Paranaguá 24.2 million tons, an increase of 8.29 %. The port of Itaguaí recorded a growth of 22% and handled 24 million tons.
