Brazilian exports in April saw a 0.3% decline in revenue, to USD 27.37 billion, from the same month in 2022, the country’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services said Monday (1). Brazilian imports in April fell by 2.6% from a year ago to USD 19.1 billion. Brazil’s trade surplus amounted thus to USD 8.2 billion in April, up 5.5% despite the decline in exports. The performance in April was the result of a 13.7% increase in exports of agricultural products, counterbalanced by a 6.6% decrease in extractive industry exports and a 6.3% decrease in transformation industry exports. According to the Ministry, the decline in April was mainly driven by the drop in revenue of exports such as maize, unroasted coffee, and raw cotton. Exports of iron ore, lignite and peat, petroleum, and beef also fell.
