BRAZIL’S SUGAR EXPORTS ROSE 50% IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2024

Brazilian sugar exports climbed by 50% in the first half of 2024, reaching 15.15 million tons. Indonesia is the main destination country and receives 12% of raw sugar, while India and the UAE import 9% and 8% respectively. Although India is the second largest sugar producer in the world, it buys Brazilian sugar and refines it before exporting it. China, usually the largest importer, ranks 11th with 588,000 tons. Brazilian sugar production will be lower in 2024 than in 2023, although large stocks from 2023 helped to keep supplies high at the beginning of this year.
