BRAZIL’S SÃO FRANCISCO PORT UNVEILS R$340 MILLION INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN, FIRST PPP DREDGING PROJECT WITH BEACH REPLENISHMENT

Two major projects starting in 2025 will boost logistics and access to the Babitonga Bay Port Complex in Santa Catarina: dredging to deepen and widen the access channel to 16 meters and building a third lane on BR-280, funded by the port. These improvements, presented by Cleverton Vieira, president of the Port of São Francisco do Sul, will allow larger ships (up to 366m) to dock by 2026. The R$324 million dredging, a public-private partnership with the Port of Itapoá, will also restore 7 km of beach in Itapoá using dredged sand. The third lane project costs R$12.4 million. The dredging will remove 15 million m³ of material, with 6 million m³ repurposed for beach replenishment, marking the first time in Brazil such sediments are used for tourism development.
