BRAZIL’S PRESIDENT CONFIRMS DECEMBER FOR EU-MERCOSUR AGREEMENT SIGNING

President Lula announced in Johannesburg his plan to sign the Mercosur-European Union trade agreement on December (20) during the upcoming bloc leaders’ summit in Foz do Iguaçu. He confirmed he will make no further international trips this year. Lula emphasized the treaty will establish the world’s largest free trade zone, encompassing 722 million people and a combined GDP of USD 22 trillion. The signing is contingent on approval from all Mercosur nations and, from the European side, ratification by the Parliament and member states. The attendance of Argentine President Javier Milei, a previous critic of the bloc, remains uncertain.
