BRAZIL’S PECÉM PORT LAUNCHES $135M TENDER FOR MAJOR TERMINAL EXPANSION

The government of Ceará has signed an international tender to expand the Multi-Utility Terminal (TMUT) at the Port of Pecém, a $135 million project funded by the World Bank, Climate Investment Fund (CIF), and Pecém Industrial and Port Complex Development Company (CIPP S/A). Expected to take 40 months, the expansion will support increased cargo from the upcoming Transnordestina railway and prepare Pecém for green hydrogen production, a growing industry in Ceará. Governor Elmano de Freitas emphasized the project’s role in economic growth and job creation, aiming to establish the port as a global renewable energy logistics hub. The tender process will shortlist companies based on prior large-scale project experience, technical and financial proposals, and adherence to social and environmental standards. The expansion, with a new berth, is expected to accommodate projected cargo growth, which could increase 48% by 2028 and up to 140% by 2040.
