BRAZIL’S MERCHANT MARINE FUND INVESTMENTS JUMP 107% TO R$3.85 BILLION IN 2025

Brazil’s shipbuilding and waterway sectors ended 2025 with a sharp rise in funding from the Merchant Marine Fund (FMM), with investments totaling R$3.85 billion, up 107.4% year on year. Most resources went to shipbuilding (R$2.45 billion), followed by port and waterway infrastructure and shipyard modernization. During the year, 771 projects were approved, creating a financing pipeline of R$31.8 billion, while 152 projects moved into contracting, totaling R$7.7 billion and expected to generate about 15,400 direct jobs. The North region absorbed 53% of earmarked resources, reflecting the strategic role of river transport. For 2026, the FMM plans up to R$34 billion in approvals, with a strong focus on port infrastructure investments.
