BRAZIL’S CORN ETHANOL PRODUCTION TO NEARLY DOUBLE BY 2032, CITI SAYS

Brazil’s corn-based ethanol production is projected to nearly double to 16 billion liters by 2032, driven by rapid sector growth, according to Citi. In 2023/24, production reached 6.3 billion liters, expected to rise to 9.5 billion liters this season. With 22 plants already operating, 12 new facilities are under construction, and 9 more approved by the ANP. Citi highlights corn’s advantages over sugarcane, like longer storage life and lower transport costs, enabling production in remote areas. Corn ethanol is seen as crucial for balancing Brazil’s ethanol market, especially during the sugarcane off-season. Despite a smaller sugarcane crop, center-south ethanol production is set to hit a record high by March 2025, supported by corn supply. Unem expects output to surpass forecasts by 200 million liters, reaching 8.2 billion liters this season.
