Sugarcane crushing in Brazil’s Center-South region increased to 52.96 million tons in the second half of the July 2023/24 harvest, according to a recent survey by the Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Union (Unica). This is a 7.81% rise over the same period the previous year when 49.12 million tons were crushed. 260 production units were active in the region during these last two weeks, with 243 of them processing sugarcane, seven manufacturing ethanol from corn, and nine being flex-fuel facilities. 259 production units were in operation during the same period of the previous year’s crop. Sugar output was 3.68 million tons in the second half of July 2023, an increase of 11.29% over the same period in 2022/23, which saw 3.31 million tons produced.
