The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply began a Brazilian mission on Thursday (5), which aims to visit some Arab countries such as, Jordan, Egypt, and Morocco to discuss fertilizers. Minister Marcos Montes was accompanied by an agribusiness delegation and will meet with representatives of private companies and governments from these three countries to discuss fertilizers as well as the expansion of investments in Brazil. In Jordan, the main topic will be the potash-based fertilizer supply; in Egypt, the nitrogen supply, while in Morocco, the discussion may focus on phosphate. The return to Brazil is scheduled for the 14th of May. The minister’s agenda in Jordan, which begins on May 7, includes meetings with directors of important potash producing companies, such as the Arab Potash Company (APC), which produces more than 2.4 million tons per year, and the Jordan Phosphate Mining Company (JPMC), which has a production capacity of over 7 million tons per year. In Egypt, meetings are planned with representatives of the fertilizer and animal protein sector. Morocco is the world’s second largest producer of phosphate fertilizers, accounting for around 17% of global production. In 2021, Brazil imported more than US$ 1.6 billion in fertilizers from Morocco.
