With mills concentrated on sugar production over ethanol, the sugarcane harvest in Brazil’s Center-South is expected to reach 42.35 million tons of sugar in 2025–26, up 5.9%. Still, a scarcity of raw materials and bad weather are expected to cause sugarcane crushing to drop 1.4%, to 612 million tons. Whereas hydrous ethanol is projected to decrease by 2.2%, corn ethanol will keep growing by 24.5%. The decline in sugar supplies will cause crushing to start earlier, therefore influencing exports. The industry has climatic and economic problems but focuses on production efficiency to meet home and overseas demand.
