The mandatory percentage of biodiesel blending in petroleum diesel oil is expected to be announced by Brazil’s government this Friday (17) in Brasilia, during the National Council for Energy Policy (CNPE) meeting. All indications point to the government making the announcement tomorrow, with the percentage increasing to 12% from April. Brazil generated 6.3 billion liters of biodiesel in 2022, placing third among the world’s largest producers behind only Indonesia and the United States, according to the Frente Parlamentar Mista do Biodiesel (FPBio). Donizete Tokarski, the superintendent director of the Brazilian Union of Biodiesel and Biokerosene (Ubrabio), said that the federal government plans to achieve 15% of biodiesel in the composition. According to the original plan, by the end of 2023, this level should be implemented, but Tokarski now thinks that this might happen only in March 2024.
