BRAZIL SURPASSES USA IN 2023/2024 COTTON EXPORTS, FUTURE RANK UNCLEAR

Brazil has become the world’s largest cotton exporter in 2024, surpassing the United States ahead of the initially projected 2030 target. This milestone was celebrated at the 75th meeting of the Sector Chamber of the Cotton and Derivatives Production Chain, organized by the National Association of Cotton Exporters (Anea). Brazil is expected to harvest around 3.7 million tonnes of processed cotton this season, with exports reaching 2.6 million tonnes. About 60% of the production has already been sold. However, maintaining this lead is uncertain for the next cycle. Brazilian cotton production, known for its improved quality and sustainability, poses challenges for the national textile industry, which is exploring ways to increase domestic yarn and fabric production.
