BRAZIL SET TO BOOST NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION 95% BY 2035, SAYS PDE

The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and Energy Research Office (EPE)’s PDE 2035 Natural Gas Notebook expects high domestic gas output growth, particularly from pre-salt and offshore projects. This will boost net output by 95% and potential supply by 85% between 2025 and 2035. The estimate shows a long-term supply glut and a reduction in Bolivian imports from 13 to 5 million cubic meters per day over the next decade. Industrial development and commercial, residential, transportation, and downstream growth could boost demand by 6.2% each year. Even with the surplus, investments are needed to develop the transportation network and increase distribution, especially between the Southeast and other regions. The PDE acknowledges BRL 16 billion in active projects and up to BRL 169 billion in preliminary planned investments.
