Brazil’s diesel imports in May totaled 1.48 billion liters, the highest volume since October 2024, driven by lower domestic production, increased demand and a favorable buying window at the beginning of the month. The volume represents an increase of 36.5% compared to May 2024 and 0.2% over April. Imports so far this year have reached 6.62 billion liters, up 21% from the same period last year. Russia remains the leading supplier, though its share has dropped from 74% to 60%, while Oman and Saudi Arabia have each gained 8%. Gasoline imports also rose sharply in May, reaching 284 million liters—a 137% jump from April but still 7.6% lower than in May 2024. The increase reflects declining domestic production alongside higher local demand. The U.S., Spain, Russia, and the Netherlands were the top gasoline exporters to Brazil, with shifts in their respective market shares.
