BRAZIL LOWERS SOYBEAN HARVEST BUT STILL SEES AN INCREASE WITH OTHER CROPS

Brazil should harvest less soybean this year, but wheat and corn production is forecast to reach a new record, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Soy production is forecast at 118.8 million tons, down 11.9% from last year’s production. The national corn production was estimated at 109.9 million tons, an increase of 25.2% when compared to 2021. The first corn harvest is expected to reach 25.8 million tons, an increase of 0.7%. The second corn harvest is likely to total 84.1 million tons, an increase of 35.3%. Wheat production is expected to reach 9.7 million tons, an increase of 24.1%. Rice production forecast is 10.6 million tons for 2022, down 8.5%.
