BRAZIL IS ON TRACK TO BECOME THE WORLD’S FIFTH-LARGEST BIOMETHANE PRODUCER

Brazil’s energy transition is accelerating the biofuel sector, with biomethane emerging as a key opportunity for agribusiness. Produced from sugarcane and livestock waste, biomethane can replace natural gas in transport and industry. Current daily production is around 800,000 m³, but could reach 8 million by 2032. With growing investment from companies like Energisa and Eren Biogas, and support from policies such as the Fuel of the Future law, Brazil is positioned to become the world’s fifth-largest biomethane producer by 2026. The expansion is driven by environmental goals, rising corporate demand, and the need to decarbonize sectors like aviation and shipping. Traditional energy firms, including Petrobras, are investing heavily in low-carbon initiatives, while companies adapt by developing renewable alternatives like RLG. The biomethane market is moving from promise to reality, transforming agricultural waste into valuable clean energy.
