The expansion of corn ethanol production in Brazil’s Northeast is set to add 1.3 billion liters annually, complementing the 2.3 billion liters of sugarcane ethanol and reducing dependence on Center-South supplies, according to SCA Brasil. Maranhão and Bahia will lead with nearly 800 million liters of new capacity, cutting logistics costs, boosting self-sufficiency, and enhancing competitiveness through byproducts like DDGS for animal feed. Brazil is projected to produce 10 billion liters of corn ethanol in 2025/26, with potential to double capacity as new plants advance in the Northeast and Central-West. However, most of this growth will serve the domestic market, with limited prospects for exports or aviation fuel.
