Brazilian exports registered a 24.9% increase in the first week of May 2023 when compared to the same period in 2022, reaching an average of US$ 1.682 billion, according to data released on Monday (May 8th) by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (SECEX) of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services (MDIC). On the other hand, imports had a 2% decrease, with a daily average of US$ 1.099 billion this year compared to US$ 1.122 billion in May last year. The year-to-date surplus (Jan to May’s first week) is US$ 26.240 billion. Regarding the sectors and products, the agricultural sector stood out with a growth of US$ 70.04 million (+19.3%) in daily exports, mainly driven by soybeans (+19.8%), raw coffee (+72.2%), and paddy rice (+414,199%).
