BRAZIL EXPANDS SUGARCANE SEEDLING MARKET INTO GUATEMALA

Brazil and Guatemala have reached a phytosanitary agreement allowing Brazilian sugarcane seedlings grown in vitro to be exported to the Central American country. The policy, the outcome of a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), broadens prospects for the private sector in biotechnology, consulting, and technical support. In 2024, Brazil sold USD 249 million in agricultural products to Guatemala, primarily cereals, oilseeds (excluding soybeans), and forest products.
