BRAZIL ANNOUNCES BRL 1.4 BILLION INVESTMENT TRANSNORDESTINA RAILROAD PROJECT

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has pledged an additional BRL 1.4 billion to accelerate the completion of the Transnordestina railway before his term ends. The funds will be sourced from the FDNE (BRL 600 million) and Finor (BRL 816 million). With BRL 8.2 billion already invested and a total budget of BRL 15 billion, the railway will link the ports of Pecém (CE), Suape (PE), and Eliseu Martins (PI). Lula assured that sufficient resources are available to finish the project and requested early updates on any potential obstacles. Once operational, the railway is projected to boost the Semi-Arid Region’s GDP by BRL 7 billion per year, create over 4,000 direct jobs, and generate BRL 4 billion in contracted investments.
