ANTAQ CLEARS SECOND PORT PROJECT IN ARROIO DO SAL, PLAN MOVES TO MINISTRY REVIEW

Brazil’s National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq) authorized a new port project in Arroio do Sal, called Porto Litoral Norte, valued at R$5 billion. Still pending approval from the Ministry of Ports and Airports, the offshore terminal is planned in an “L” shape with a depth of 30 meters, allowing larger vessels than the nearby Porto Meridional project. Proposed by Doha Investimentos, formed by investors who split from Porto Meridional, the project covers 150 hectares in the Arroio Seco resort area for an industrial complex and passenger terminal, with access via BR-101. Designed to handle 23,400 containers and move up to 43.9 million tonnes annually, Porto Litoral Norte would be located five kilometers north of Porto Meridional, highlighting competition and expansion in the region’s port infrastructure.
