AMMONIA-POWERED SHIP EXPECTED TO START SAILING IN 2026

The world’s first Ammonia-powered cargo ship is set to start sailing in 2026 as part of the Yara Eyde ship project. Yara Clean Ammonia, North Sea Container Line, and Yara International have joined forces to create this low-carbon vessel. The ship will navigate a maritime route between Norway and Germany, operating between Oslo, Porsgrunn, Hamburg, and Bremerhaven. From 2026, Norwegian companies will be able to trade their products with low carbon emissions within and outside Norway, according to the involved parties. Yara International, a Norwegian fertilizer-producing chemical company, took on the role of the cargo owner. “The fertilizer produced in Porsgrunn will be transported with zero emissions to Germany, reducing Scope 3 emissions by 11,000 tons of CO2 (carbon dioxide) per year,” the statement said.
