PETROBRAS IS CONSIDERING A RETURN TO ETHANOL PRODUCTION AND INCREASED BIODIESEL PRODUCTION, SAYS CEO.

Petrobras President Magda Chambriard announced that the company is evaluating new investments in renewable fuels as part of a strategy to expand its presence in cleaner energy sources. Speaking at an Eloos event organized by Itatiaia and CNN Brasil, she said Petrobras is considering returning to ethanol production, increasing biodiesel output, and intensifying investments in wind, solar and hydrogen. Chambriard noted that current efforts focus on research and development due to the high cost of these technologies. She highlighted that Petrobras currently supplies 31% of Brazil’s primary energy and aims to maintain this share through 2050 as national energy demand grows. To achieve this, the company will need to increase primary energy supply by at least 60% by mid-century, ensuring continued relevance in the country’s energy matrix.
